Asian American Mormons: Bridging Culture

By Jessie L. Embry

Asian American Mormons: Bridging Cultures looks at the experiences of Asians and Asian Americans who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and living in the United states. It briefly reviews the Church's history in Asian countries and then looks at the experiences of the 108 interviewees in the Asian American Mormon Oral History Project sponsored by the Redd Center.  The chapters focus on reasons for immigration, culture adaptations, relationships with European Americans and views of ethnic congregations.

Jessie L. Embry is the Assistant Director and Oral History Program Director of the Charles Redd Center at Brigham Young University. She is also the author of Mormon Polygamous Families: Life in the Principle, Black Saints in a White Church, In His Own Language: Mormon Spanish Speaking Congregations in the United States, and many articles dealing with Mormon, Utah, and Western American topics.
